About Mtangani Development Project
Mtangani is a rural community located near Malindi, along Kenya's coastal region approximately 120 km north of Mombasa . The area is characterised by its large, rural landscape where most residents live in simple traditional homes, with limited access to basic utilities such as piped water and electricity .

The Mtangani Development Project represents a collaborative community effort focused on improving the lives of local residents through sustainable development initiatives. Operating initially as a Community-Based Organisation (CBO), the project has been instrumental in advocating for community rights and fostering meaningful dialogue with government agencies on matters affecting local residents .

Our Mission
Our mission is to drive positive, sustainable change in Mtangani and the surrounding areas by addressing critical community needs through targeted development programmes. We believe in empowering community members through education, improved healthcare access, and economic opportunities.

Key Focus Areas
Community Advocacy – We actively represent the interests of Mtangani residents in consultations with government bodies and other stakeholders, ensuring that community voices are heard and respected in decisions that affect their lives .

Education – Recognising that approximately 70% of residents, particularly women, face literacy challenges, we have established educational initiatives including adult education programmes and a primary school that has provided free, quality education to local children since 2015 .

Health and Welfare – We coordinate healthcare initiatives including eye care programmes, health facility support, and an emergency fund to assist residents with medical expenses, surgeries, and hospital care .

Economic Empowerment – Our microcredit initiatives help women and families generate sustainable incomes, improving living standards and building financial independence within the community .

Infrastructure Development – We work alongside government partners to support infrastructure improvements, including road upgrades connecting Mtangani to wider economic opportunities .

Our Approach
